![]() ![]() They seemed to be close enough in specs, but far apart enough in price where the SE seems like it should be a totally sensible option. You don't get that big difference in feel like you do between an Epiphone (Poly) and a Gibson (nitro.) But, apart from the custom stuff, they all use a poly finish, like Fender, so to the hand, they all feel pretty similar. ![]() That said, mine could turn up next week and be ****, so I'll reserve final judgement until then They seemed to be similar enough in specs, but far apart enough in price where the SE seems like it should be a totally sensible sensible option. But, apart from the custom stuff, they all use a poly finish, similar like Fender, so to the hand, they all feel pretty similar. Obviously, if money was no object and you had to pick one, you'd pick the core, but most of us live in the real world where money is an issue and the consensus seems to be that the core models are not £3700 better guitars. įrom nearly all accounts, it seems to be a great guitar for the money and even holds its own against the core hollowbody. The Core equivalent hollow is around £5000. It is getting delivered next week, so can't comment with any honesty on whether it's a good buy or not yet, BUT. The SE Hollowbody II Piezo is a better all round guitar than those were IMO. I tried Epiphone ES335 & ES339 models and previously owned a Yamaha AS93. Obviously a core model is a step up, but the price difference is several steps up and these are still great guitars. Makes the guitar very different from anything else I have. I run it through an AER Alpha Plus amp and the magnetic pickups through one of my valve amps. The Piezo pickup adds so much tonal variation. Get one at the right price and you can't go wrong. Now I have a really low action without any fret buzz and it plays fantastically. A stunning guitar that is the best of the best in terms of build quality and performance. Its one of the most iconic guitars ever made right up there with the Fender Stratocaster and Gibson Les Paul. It's a steal for what I paid for it.īecause I got it at such a good price I treated it to a Plek at Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience. The PRS Custom 24 is Paul Reed Smiths claim to fame. I got mine used but basically unplayed and mint at a bargain £800 (now £1400 new). The finish on mine is called Black-Gold so I fitted black/gold speed knobs, I thought they were more appropriate than amber. I didn't like the stock knobs either, they also looked and felt cheap but I've changed those. ![]() Only criticism is the pots feel cheap and are a pain to change. It's light, resonant and a really comfortable guitar to play. In my opinion, if someone was to come and ask me which guitar to invest in, if they could only have one nice guitar. This one is a bit more complex, since the Custom 24 piezo as the guitar does have a lot more options with a 5 way switch and a piezo/piezo blend. The stock PRS SE tuners aren't great so I've upgraded those. So this is the second video in the series, after the Tremonti. I think mine is a beautifully made guitar. ![]()
